The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the ICT Research Platform for the Netherlands (IPN) are organising ICT.OPEN2019 in a shared effort to bring together fundamental ICT research as well as novel and innovative applications of ICT research.

NWO Domain Science (ENW)

NWO encourages excellent research in the Domain Science. Various funding instruments are available to achieve this.

The NWO Domain Science covers the following disciplines:

  • Earth Sciences
  • Astronomy
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Life Sciences
  • Physics
  • Mathematics

Within NWO, the Domain Science realises the funding of research via five strategic lines:

  • Talent via Rubicon, Research Talent, the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme (Veni, Vidi, Vici) and NWO Spinoza Prize
  • Curiosity-driven research
  • Strategic programming, both national and international (including the Top Sectors and the Dutch National Research Agenda – NWA)
  • Valorisation
  • Infrastructure

NWO Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences

The NWO Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES, previously Technology Foundation STW) connects people and resources to develop technology with added economic value that contributes to solving societal issues. This is realised through the funding of excellent applied and engineering sciences research, by bringing users and researchers together, and by supervising projects towards optimal opportunities for knowledge transfer. Various funding instruments are available to achieve this.

ICT research Platform Netherlands (IPN)

IPN is a national platform for Dutch ICT research field. ICT research has a huge impact on our daily lives. Often we are not even aware that we use the results of ICT research. Dozens of times a day IPN, ICT in the Netherlands as a scientific discipline in a stronger position and makes it visible.

By coordinating the Dutch ICT efforts IPN acts as the point of contact to policymakers, politics, business and other civil society groups. Researchers in computer science and closely related disciplines such as electrical engineering, communications and signal processing are increasingly working together. IPN promotes this change towards an ICT research field and contributes actively to this.
